FASHION FOR FREEDOM
Living Water? fashion design project with Art Therapy implications in the context of the Fashion For Freedom project. History of the project. June 6, 2023 in the very early hours of the morning the Khahovka hydroelectric power plant in Ukraine was blown up by Russian troops occupying the power plant. This tragic event brought the entire surrounding area to its knees up to the Black Sea, taking away the lives of innocent people, animals and all vegetation, sweeping away life, causing one of the largest environmental catastrophes, comparable to the exposure of Chernobyl, the consequences of which are still not fully known. The students of the Kherson Design Lyceum created the fashion project that tells this tragedy, the story of their city, which suffers daily damage from Russian bombings, which has become dangerous to live in, but not for this reason not remembered with the warmth and elements of history of Ukraine to date still quite unknown in Europe and the rest of the world. The development of these models and the research behind them have contributed to the Mood of the collection: This exhibition premiered clothing patterns developed by our students based on the study of the art of the Scythians, the archaeological culture of Trypil, whose images were transformed into elements of contemporary clothing. The second collection is dedicated to Kherson and its architectural monuments, which are mercilessly destroyed by Russian troops every day, turning our students' projects into memorable artifacts that preserve the memory of the city's historical objects. The third theme is Water, the main factor for the existence of life on our planet. The collection of clothes created takes up the image of water in its various states - from calm to stormy and is a reflection on the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station on the Dnieper, an attempt to express human emotions in the form of clothes for the tragic event in Ukraine in the summer of 2023. The authors of the project tried to convey the pain and suffering of innocent animals who died as a result of the explosion of the Khahovka hydroelectric power station, the destruction of homes and lives, the terrible environmental consequences. However, the images created by the models identify our students as strong-minded people who are able to face the challenges of war through reason, faith and indomitableness. By participating in the FASHION FOR FREEDOM project, we tell the world about Ukraine and the incredibly talented young creatives of Kherson, who desire peace with all their hearts. We have joined the Eco-sustainability movement, which is rapidly spreading throughout the world. Thinking about the future, let us educate our children to be wise, responsible and capable of creating a safe and ecological environment, so that the word WAR never returns to our history and the world becomes PEACE and safe.” Prof. Yulia Slipich director of the Kherson Art School.
